Philip Wilkerson III

Title: Employer Engagement Consultant

Philip Wilkerson’s professional life is a testament to the power of kindness and its profound impact on leadership and community. As a Mason Speaker, he shares this philosophy through one of his most sought-after presentations, “A Kind Leader is a Strong Leader,” which underscores his belief that empathy and compassion are not weaknesses but essential pillars of effective leadership. His dedication to kindness extends beyond his speaking engagements. He was instrumental in creating the Pats for Patriots program, a heartwarming initiative that provides care packages and support to military personnel. His lifelong commitment to this value was formally recognized when he was named a Kindness Ambassador by Kindness Worldwide Incorporated at the beginning of September 2025. This prestigious title, along with his recent induction into the Fairfax County Public School Alumni Hall of Fame this month, highlights a career built on service and compassion.

In his role as an Employer Engagement Consultant at George Mason University (GMU) Career Services, Philip serves as a vital bridge between employers and the university community. He ensures that students, faculty, and alumni have access to meaningful career opportunities across various industries, including Media, Arts, Design, Sports & Recreation, Hospitality & Tourism, and Technology & Engineering. A Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and TEDx Speaker, Philip uses his exceptional communication skills to mentor and inspire others. His influence is widely recognized, as evidenced by his 2024 nomination for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) “Mentor of the Year” award. Over the years, he has received numerous accolades that reflect his dedication to both professional excellence and community support, including the GMU Pillar Award, the Margaret C. Howell Award for fostering Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity, and the Spirit of Giving Award from GMU Advancement. A published author and host of the Positive Philter podcast, Philip continues to share his insights on well-being and positive influence. He also serves as the faculty advisor for the Iota Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and the GMU NAACP chapter. Outside of his many professional and philanthropic pursuits, Philip cherishes his roles as a husband to Maggie and a proud father to their two boys, Bennett and Miles.
